Women’s Soccer Falls to Fighting Scots in Extra Time

Sept. 14 – (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women’s soccer team made their home debut on the night of Friday, September 14 against the College of Wooster Fighting Scots. The Tartans lost 2-1 in the first overtime to drop their record to 2-3. Wooster improves to 6-1 on the season.

Carnegie Mellon junior Abby Coffin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) scored a late equalizer for the Tartans in the 79th minute. Coffin’s free kick from just outside the 18-yard box found its way past the Wooster wall and deflected off a defender and into the net for her third goal of the season.

Wooster senior defender Angela Evans started the scoring in the forth minute when her free kick from 25 yards out found its way over Carnegie Mellon junior goalkeeper Christie Adams (Kingsville, Md./Mercy).

The game-winning goal came in the 94th minute when Wooster senior forward Kate Kiley intercepted a back pass and chipped a shot from 30 yards out that grazed the outstretched hands of Carnegie Mellon freshman goalkeeper Anya Rosen (La Cañada, Calif./La Cañada) and slowly trickled into the net to end the game.

Wooster and Carnegie Mellon each took eight shots. Adams had one save and Rosen stopped two shots for the Tartans.

The Carnegie Mellon women’s soccer team will be in action again on Monday, September 17 when they host Penn State Behrend. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
