Tartans Just Miss Chance to Upset #5 Washington

Stats

Sept. 30 – (ST. LOUIS, Mo.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team played tough against the fifth ranked team in the country but fell 2-0 to Washington University in St. Louis in the University Athletic Association opener for both teams. The Tartans fall to 5-4 on the year, while the Bears remain undefeated at 10-0.

It wasn't until the 71st minute that the Bears could break through with the game-winning goal. Julie Tembunkiart scored her first goal of the season from 20 yards out after she fired home a rebounded shot by Caryn Rosoff that was saved by freshman goalkeeper Anya Rosen (La Canada, Calif.).

The Bears extended their lead less than three minutes later when Rosoff scored her sixth of the season from 20 yards out to the far post.

The Tartans threatened as early as 18 minutes into the game when junior Sarah DeWath (Cuppertino, Calif./Monta Vista) got a shot off after senior Amanda Rose's (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West) corner kick. Rose then put a shot on goal that was also saved by Carrie Sear in the 40th minute of action.

Carnegie Mellon returns home to face Allegheny College in a non-league contest on Wednesday, Oct. 3. Kick is set for 7:30 p.m. at Gesling Stadium.
