Women's Soccer Seeded 7th in ECAC Tournament
Nov. 5 – (CENTREVILLE, Mass.) – Carnegie Mellon University has been selected to play in the Eastern College Athletic Conference South Tournament for women's soccer and will travel to Frostburg State University on Wednesday, November 7 for the opening round at 5:00 p.m. The Tartans are seeded seventh in the eight team tournament with Grove City College (15-3-1) receiving the number one spot.
The Tartans finished the 2007 season with an 8-6-2 record and a fifth place finish in the University Athletic Association. The offense is led by junior Abby Coffin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) and senior Kasey Stever (Chagrin Falls, Ohio). Coffin has 10 goals and one assist while Stever has put away nine and assisted on three. Senior Amanda Rose (Arvada Colo./Arvada West) broke her own school season assist record with 11 this year. Freshman keeper Anya Rosen (La Canada, Calif.) has recorded four shutouts this year and has a .75 goals against average.
Frostburg State is 15-4-1 and finished second in the AMCC behind Penn State Behrend. The Bobcats have scored 70 goals this season and have posted eight shutouts.
The teams have faced two common opponents in Penn State Behrend and Johns Hopkins. Carnegie Mellon defeated Behrend 4-0 in the sixth game of the season and fell to then #16 Johns Hopkins 2-1 in the first weekend of play. The Bobcats lost twice to Behrend but defeated Hopkins 4-1 at home.
