Rose, Rosen Highlight Women’s Soccer All-UAA Honors

Nov. 9 – (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – A senior and freshman on the Carnegie Mellon University women’s soccer team highlight the All-University Athletic Association (UAA) team for the Tartans that was released by the association office Friday. Amanda Rose (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West) and Anya Rosen (La Canada, Calif.) received first team and rookie of the year honors, respectively.

Rose concluded her career with her fourth All-UAA honor and second first team accolade. She recorded three of her school record 11 assists in UAA action and totaled 19 points for the year. The midfielder/defender ended 2007 as the school’s all-time assist leader with 35, a title she seized during her junior year.

A pair of forwards, Kasey Stever (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) and Abby Coffin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon), earned second team honors. Stever, a senior and two-time All-UAA recipient, finished the year with nine goals and three assists and tied Coffin for the team lead in points with 21. The pair each delivered two multi-goal games. Coffin recorded double digit goals for the second time in her career with 10 and currently sits third on the career goals scored list with 28. This is her third All-UAA honor including rookie of the year recognition in 2005.

Rosen, also named to the honorable mention squad, earned the starting goalkeeping spot in the sixth game of the season and proved her worth with four shutouts on the season, including the first of her career against then ranked #7 Denison University. Rosen twice earned UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week and finished the year with a 0.77 goals against average.

Two others earned honorable mention distinction, senior midfielder Jessica Howard (Brookline, Mass.) and junior defender Sarah DeWath (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista). Howard scored her loan goal of the season in the Tartans’ 5-1 win over New York and collected two assists against UAA opponents, Chicago and Brandeis. DeWath twice was the hero for the Cardinal and Gray with the game-winning goal against Denison and the tying goal against the University of Rochester. The two-time All-UAA defender also controlled the back line which held opponents to only five multi-goal games.
