Stats

Sept. 16 - (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon women's soccer team rebounded from their Tuesday night loss to Capital College by defeating the visiting Juniata Eagles 3-0 on Saturday, September 16 at Gesling Stadium.

Junior forward Kasey Stever (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) started and wrapped up the scoring for the Tartans and sophomore forward Abby Coffin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) added a goal in the three goal victory. The win improves the Tartans' record to 2-2-1 and drops the Eagles to 4-2.

Stever collected a pass from senior midfielder Lisa Pascoli (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) and chipped the ball past Juniata goalkeeper Lisa Russo into the right corner of the net to put the Tartans up 1-0 in the 28th minute. The Tartans continued their solid play in the second half as Coffin gave the Tartans a two goal cushion in the 52nd minute. From the left corner, junior defender Amanda Rose (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West) crossed the ball into the center where it found Coffin’s head. Coffin bonked the ball past Russo into the net for her first goal of the season.

Stever wrapped up the scoring in the 88th minute when she collected a loose ball in front of the empty goal. Freshman forward Samantha Simmons (West Chester, Pa./Hender) and Russo got tangled up on the left side of the box and the ball bounced over to Stever. She turned and punched the ball into the net for her second goal of the evening. The Tartans out shot the Eagles 14-1 for the game, with sophomore goalkeeper Christie Adams (Kingsville, Md./Mercy) recording one save.

When asked how it felt to score tonight Stever responded, "We are a really good team, we just haven't been putting it away so this game was really good for us. Lisa played a ball back to me and I was able to touch it in. It was a good team effort."

The Carnegie Mellon women's soccer team will hit the road for four straight games, starting on Monday, September 18 when they play the Washington & Jefferson Presidents at 5:00 p.m.
