Men’s and Women’s Soccer Programs Add Full-Time Assistants

June 20 - (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - Carnegie Mellon University’s men’s and women’s soccer programs added two new faces to the Tartan staff when each team hired a full-time assistant coach for the upcoming 2006 season. Head Coach Nick Gaudioso, starting his 26th year at the helm of the men’s program, announced the hiring of Rob Czlonka. On the women’s side, Head Coach Sue Willard, announced Tony Mohammed as the new women’s assistant.

Czlonka was the assistant men’s soccer coach at Oberlin College during the 2005 campaign. While at Oberlin he helped coach the Yeomen to their first ever postseason appearance and a 6-2-1 record in the North Coast Athletic Conference. During his stay at Oberlin, Czlonka assisted in the compliance of the NCAA Division III rules and regulations, as well as helped market, manage and coach camps and clinics.

Prior to Oberlin College, Czlonka spent three seasons coordinating the soccer programs at Hawaii Baptist Academy. He also served as a state ODP coach and as a junior assistant with the Hawaii Bulls club team.

Czlonka is a graduate of Chowan College, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in May 1997. While at Chowan he played soccer and served as captain in 1994.

Tony Mohammed comes to Carnegie Mellon from SUNY New Paltz where he served as the men’s assistant coach in 2005. Before working with the Hawks, Mohammed served as the interim head coach for the women’s program at Vassar College for one year and as the men’s assistant and interim facilities manager the year prior. While at the helm of the women’s program at Vassar, he led the Brewer’s to an appearance in the ECAC Championship with a 10-8-1 mark winning the NY State Championship.

Mohammed began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant for the women's soccer program at St. Lawrence University from 1999-2001 as he was completing his Master's Degree. In 2002 Mohammed served as a Regional Manager and Camp Director for Lake Placid Soccer Center. Since 2000, he has led Coerver Coaching technical sessions and clinics for various clubs in Eastern New York, Vermont, and Massachusetts.

He received his undergraduate degree from Kenyon College in 1997. A four-year starter for the Lords, Mohammed participated in two NCAA DIII National Championships finishing third in 1993 and second in 1996. As a member of the most successful soccer teams in school history, Mohammed is currently third in all-time career points. Prior to attending college, Mohammed was selected for the Provincial and National Player Development Programs from 1989-1993 and participated in three National Championships including the 1993 Canada Games.

Both teams open up play September 2, with the men hosting Geneva College at 7:30 p.m. on Gesling Stadium’s refurbished playing surface. The women will take part in the Ohio Northern Tournament, as they play Otterbein College at 1:00 p.m. and Ohio Northern at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday the 3rd.
