Stats
Oct. 27 - (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – With temperatures in the low 40s and rain falling from the sky, the host Carnegie Mellon women’s soccer team defeated the Case Western Reserve Spartans 1-0 on Friday, October 27. The win improves the Tartans’ record to 7-6-1 and 2-3 in the University Athletic Association. Case Western drops to 5-10-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the UAA with the loss.
In the 17th minute junior midfielder/defender Amanda Rose (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West) scored her first goal of the season off a pass from junior forward Kasey Stever (Chagrin Falls, Ohio). The ball was booted high into the box and Spartan goalie Kirsten McClain was not able to control the ball. Stever collected it near the right post, turned and had her shot blocked by two Case defenders. She collected the rebound and turned and passed back to the center of the box to Rose, who one-timed the ball into the empty left side of the net.
Carnegie Mellon’s defense thwarted every attack Case Western tried to start en route to the shutout. Tartan sophomore goalkeeper Christie Adams (Kingsville, Md./Mercy) made one save and McClain made four saves in the loss. Carnegie Mellon took 12 shots while Case Western only mustered one shot against the solid Tartan defense.
The women’s soccer team will play again on Sunday, October 29 when they take on UAA opponent University of Rochester at 11:00 am.
