Women's Soccer Drops 2-1 Decision to Brandeis

Oct. 13 - (WALTHAM, Mass.) – The Carnegie Mellon women's soccer team dropped a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest Friday, October 13, 2-1, to the Judges of Brandeis University at Gordon Field in Waltham, Massachusetts. The Tartans fall to 4-6-1 on the season and 0-3 in UAA play. The Judges, improve to 7-3-2 and 1-0-2 in the UAA.
Brandeis freshman midfielder Melissa Gorenkoff gave the Judges the early 1-0 lead. Gorenkoff let a free ball go through her legs, turned, and fired a shot from about 20 yards out that deflected off the far post and past Tartan sophomore goalkeeper Christie Adams (Kingsville, Md./Mercy) in the 31st minute of play.
The score would remain that way until the 51st minute when Carnegie Mellon's junior forward Kasey Stever (Chagrin Falls, Ohio), who has scored three of the Tartans last four goals, took sophomore forward Abby Coffin's (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) missed shot rebound and found the back of the net.
The Judges answered Stever's team leading fifth goal of the season in the 63rd minute. Senior Lisa Kaplin, the judges leading scorer, fired the game-winner to the upper left corner past Adams for the Judges 2-1 victory.
The Tartans out shot the Judges 14-12 and had the advantage on corners, 6-1. Adams finished with five saves in the loss, while Brandeis junior goalie Betsey Medow made seven.
The Tartans will travel to New York University to square off against the NYU Violets on Sunday, October 15 at 11:00 am.
