Women’s Soccer Runs Win Total to Four

Sept. 17 - (WOOSTER, Ohio) – Freshman midfielder Abigail Coffin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) gave Carnegie Mellon women’s soccer team their fourth victory of the year at the College of Wooster Saturday afternoon, 2-1. The Tartans improve to 4-0-1 as the Fighting Scots drop to 2-2-2 on the year.

Wooster started the scoring early in the game with a goal by Erin Lustic in the 6th minute. Lustic scored her third goal of the year on a breakaway with Sarah Schostarez earning the assist.

Two minutes later, Tartan senior forward Hallie Dumont (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) tied the game with her third goal of the season. Sophomore midfielder Jessica Howard (Brookline, Mass.) set up Dumont’s 28th career goal with a cross through the middle. Dumont now needs one goal to tie the school record for goals in a career.

Scoring action came to a halt until the 79th minute when Coffin scored her team leading fifth goal of the season. Coffin’s goal was unassisted and came from 18 yards out.

Carnegie Mellon out shot the Fighting Scots 16-7, while the home team collected three corner kicks to the visitor’s two.

Freshman Mary Ashe (Rockville, Md./Wootton) recorded her second win in goal for the Tartans making two saves.

Kate Kiley made seven saves in the loss for the Fighting Scots.

The Tartans return home on Wednesday, September 21 for a 7:30 p.m. start against Frostburg University.
