Women’s Soccer Wins Final Home Game of Season
Stats
Oct. 22 - (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Senior forward Nadya Yaghoubi (Scarsdale, N.Y.) ended her Gesling Stadium playing career in style with the only goal in Carnegie Mellon's 1-0 victory over the visiting Westminster College Titans. The Tartans improve to 10-1-2, while the Titans drop to 13-4.
After a scoreless first half, Yaghoubi found the net in the 61st minute. She received a pass from junior defender Andrea Maresca (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) and took a shot from the left side that sailed over Titan goalie Whitney Griffin and just under the crossbar and into the net.
Tartan freshman goalie Christie Adams (Kingsville, Md./Mercy) came up with a huge save in the 47th minute when Titan forward Sarah Calderone was on a breakaway. Calderone's shot, which would have given Westminster the lead, was blocked by the charging Adams. Adams wound up with only one other save besides Calderone’s shot in the game, as the Tartans out shot Westminster 22-4. Griffin collected six saves in the loss.
The Carnegie Mellon women's soccer team will be in action again next Friday, October 28th when they travel to play at University Athletic Association member, Case Western Reserve University. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
