Stats

Oct. 30 - (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - The Carnegie Mellon women's soccer dropped a 2-1 decision on the road Sunday, October 30, to host #16 Rochester, in University Athletic Association play. Mary Walsh scored with 3:30 left in the first sudden death overtime period to give Rochester the dramatic 2-1 victory. The Tartans fall to 10-3-2 on the year and 3-3, while the Yellowjacks improve to 14-1-2 and 5-0-1.

Carnegie Mellon took a 1-0 lead nine minutes into the second half. Kristin Bevilacqua-Linn (Carmel, N.Y.) crossed the ball from left wing. Rochester's goalie Molly Leitch came out to punch it clear, but could only bat it into the center of the box. Senior Hallie Dumont (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) took the rebound and drove it into the net at 54:42.

Just minutes later, the Tartans nearly took a 2-0 lead. Senior Nadya Yaghoubi (Scarsdale, N.Y.) crossed the ball along the endline from deep on right wing. Bevilacqua dashed to the left post and just missed connecting with the ball at the left post.

Rochester finally broke through at 73:35. Kristin Leskow played the ball up from midfield to Walsh hanging even with the Carnegie Mellon backs. She took the pass, out stepped a defender, and raced in from the right side where she slotted the ball past Carnegie Mellon freshman goalkeeper Christie Adams (Kingsville, Md./Mercy) into the lower left hand corner.

The gamewinning goal came when Anne McMahon got it ahead to Emily Urbanczyk and she played it onto Walsh's foot. The junior striker turned and arched a tough angle shot from eight yards out that sailed beyond the onrushing Adams and into the center of the net at 96:30.

Adams finished with six saves for the Tartans. Adrianne Hulchanski had five saves for Rochester in the first half. Leitch, who played the second half and the OT, had one save for the Yellowjackets.

Dumont's goal marked her 29th for her career tying her for the most goals in a career at Carnegie Mellon.

The Tartans will visit Emory University, Saturday, November 5 for a 3:30 p.m. game to end their regular season.
