Stats

Oct. 16 - (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The #18 Carnegie Mellon women's soccer team lost their first game of the season on a cold Sunday afternoon 2-1 to visiting New York University. The Tartans fall to 9-1-2 (3-1) on the season and the Violets improve to 7-6-1 (1-3).

The Violets struck first when they placed the ball in the net in the 12th minute. NYU's Whitney Dipollina and Tartan freshman goalie Christie Adams (Kingsville, Md./Mercy) both went for the ball at the top of the Tartan penalty box and the ball ricocheted over to the right side of the box where Violet midfielder Laura Torres was able to punch it in the empty net.

NYU's Jennifer Tavares put the Violets up 2-0 in the 75th minute when her shot from 40 yards out found its way over Adams's head and into the net.

The Tartans and junior midfielder Lisa Pascoli (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) answered back to close to within 2-1 in the 76th minute off a corner kick by sophomore defender Amanda Rose (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West). Rose's corner was headed by freshman midfielder Abby Coffin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) off the crossbar and over to Pascoli who headed the ball into the left side of the net. This was Pascoli’s third goal of the year.

The Tartans out shot the Violets 18-3 with Adams recording one save. NYU goalie Katie Barnes made six saves in the victory.

The team will next be in action on Saturday, October 22nd when they host Westminster College at 6:00 p.m. in what will be their final home game of the season.
