Tartans Edge Frostburg in Women’s Soccer

Sept. 21 - (PITTSBURGH, Pa) – Senior forward Nadya Yaghoubi (Scarsdale, N.Y.) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal against the visiting Frostburg State Bobcats on a clear and calm Wednesday evening. The Tartans are now 5-0-1 with the Bobcats dropping to 1-5-1.
In the 16th minute Yaghoubi took a pass from junior defender Megan Hughes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) at the top of the box and volleyed it into the right side of the net for her second goal of the season. Hughes one-timed a back pass from senior forward Hallie Dumont (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) to start the play.
The Tartan line of defense played another solid game as Amanda Rose (Arvada, Colo.), Mollie Salpeter (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman), Andrea Maresca (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo), and Hughes shut down the Bobcat forwards. The Tartans out shot the Bobcats 17-6 for the game with freshman goalie Mary Ashe (Rockville, Md./Wootton) recording her fourth shutout. Bobcat goalie Molly Whyte recorded ten saves in the loss.
The Carnegie Mellon women’s soccer team will be in action again this Saturday, September 24 at 1:00 p.m. when they host Mt. Union. The men’s soccer team will also take on Mt. Union following the women at 3:30 p.m.
