Women’s Soccer Wins in First Round of ECAC Tournament

Nov. 9 - (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon women's soccer team defeated the visiting Washington & Jefferson Presidents 6-0 in the first round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Southern Region Tournament Wednesday, November 9 at Gesling Stadium. The Tartans improve to 11-4-2 while the Presidents end their season at 10-9-2.
The Tartans got on the board 4:59 into the game when sophomore defender Amanda Rose (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West)crossed a corner kick into the penalty box where junior midfielder Lisa Pascoli (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) headed the ball into the far left corner of the goal. This was her fifth goal of the season.
The Tartans scored again in the 12th minute when senior forward Hallie Dumont (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) took a through ball from senior midfielder Kristin Bevilacqua-Linn (Carmel, N.Y.) and one-timed the ball past President goalie Jackie Foltz. This goal was Dumont’s fifth goal on the season and it makes her the all-time goal scoring leader in Carnegie Mellon women’s soccer history with 30 career goals.
Senior midfielder Margaret Beck (Boise, Idaho/Timberline) scored her fourth goal of the season 17:20 into the game when she headed a bouncing pass from Dumont into the right side of the goal to make it 3-0 Tartans.
Senior midfielder Vanessa McClain-Duer (Olmsted Twp., Ohio/Magnificat) scored in the 33rd minute to make it 4-0 in favor of Carnegie Mellon. Her third goal of the season came when she controlled a through ball from freshman midfielder Abby Coffin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) and blasted it past Foltz into the right corner of the goal.
The Tartans scored a fifth time in the 35th minute when sophomore forward Erica LeCount (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) crossed the ball to the center of the box and sophomore midfielder Kasey Stever (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) pushed it past Foltz into the left side of the net for her fourth goal on the year.
After taking a 5-0 lead into halftime the Tartans made it 6-0 in the 69th minute when Dumont took a pass from Stever and blasted the ball past Foltz for her second goal of the game and sixth on the season.
Carnegie Mellon out shot the Presidents 23-0 in the win. Tartan freshman goalie Christie Adams (Kingsville, Md./Mercy) upped her record to 7-4-0 for the year.
The Carnegie Mellon women’s soccer team advances to the second round of the ECAC Southern Region Tournament and will face Ursinus College Saturday, November 12 at Penn State Behrend University in Erie, Pa. The game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. The winner of that game will play in the championship game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
