Women’s Soccer Advances to ECAC Finals

Nov. 12 - (ERIE, Pa.) The semifinals of the 2005 ECAC Southern Region Soccer Tournament opened on Saturday, November 12, with the Carnegie Mellon University Tartans bouncing Ursinus 4-1. The semifinals were held on the campus of Penn State Behrend in Erie, Pa. Carnegie Mellon moves to 12-4-2 with the victory, Ursinus ends their season13-5-2.

Tartan senior forward Hallie Dumont (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon)lead the Tartan offense with a pair of goals and an assist.

Dumont connected at the 21:34 mark in the first half and Abigail Coffin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) scored a second goal for the Tartans in the closing seconds of the first half to take a 2-0 lead to the break.

It looked as if the Tartans would run away with the contest before Ursinus midfielder Deb Jensen found the back of the net 1:03 seconds into the second half, however, Dumont scored 2 minutes 56 seconds later to create another two-goal gap. Senior Nadya Yaghoubi (Scarsdale, N.Y.) finished the day's scoring for the Tartans on a pass from Dumont at the 65:44 mark to make the final 4-1.

Ursinus entered as the number-two seed and received a first-round bye to the semi-finals, while Carnegie Mellon entered as the number three-seed.

With the top two seeds getting knocked out today, the Tartans (#3) will battle Gettysburg (#4) for the 2005 ECAC Southern Region Women's Soccer Championship. The game is scheduled for Sunday, November 13 at 1:00 p.m. on the Behrend Fields.
