Tartans and Lions Battle to 0-0 Tie
Stats
Sept. 13 - (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – One hundred and ten minutes were not enough time Tuesday night for either the host Carnegie Mellon Tartans or the visiting Penn State Behrend Lions to get on the scoreboard. The game ended in a 0-0 tie, putting the Tartans at 3-0-1 on the season and the Lions at 3-1-1.
The Tartans had plenty of chances, as they out shot the Lions 29-7 for the game, but each shot they took could not find the net. Penn State Behrend goalie Dara Nielson recorded 12 saves and had some help from the crossbar on a shot by Tartan senior forward Hallie Dumont (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) early in the second half. Less than five minutes prior to Dumont’s shot, Nielson fully extended to her left to deflect sophomore midfielder Jessica Howard’s (Brookline, Mass.) shot on what would prove to be one of the Tartans’ better opportunities.
The Lions put together a couple scoring chances of their own, including a header off of a corner kick in overtime, but freshman goalie Mary Ashe (Rockville, Md./Wootton) was able to make the save. Ashe recorded her second shutout of the season.
The Tartans will next be in action when they travel to play the College of Wooster on Saturday, September 17 for what is scheduled to be a 2:00 p.m. start.
