Tartans Top Altoona in Women’s Soccer

Sept. 1 - (ALTOONA, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon opened the women’s soccer season with a 10-0 victory over the Penn State Altoona Lions Thursday evening. The Tartans start 1-0 under first year Head Coach Sue Willard.

Seven different players found the net for the Tartans with the scoring starting in the 12th minute. Senior forward Nadya Yaghoubi (Scarsdale, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal to get things started before senior forward Hallie Dumont (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) scored her first goal of the year unassisted in the 23rd minute. Dumont then assisted a goal by sophomore defender Amanda Rose (Arvada, Colo.) seven minutes later.

Senior midfielder Kristin Bevilacqua-Linn (Carmel, N.Y.) and sophomore forward Kasey Stever (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) tallied two goals and one assist apiece. Senior midfielder Vanessa McClain (Olmsted Twp., Ohio/Magnificat) scored one goal and assisted on one of Bevilacqua’s goals. Freshman forward Abigail Coffin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) scored her first and second career goals for the Tartans in the second half of action to finish the scoring.

Freshman goalkeeper Christie Adams (Kingsville, Md./Mercy) earned her first career shutout and victory in goal for the Tartans going 90 scoreless minutes.

The Tartans are back in action Wednesday, September 7 as they visit Grove City College for a 5:00 p.m. game time.
