Women's Cross Country Races to Fourth Place Finish

Sept. 1 – (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The 2007 season started Saturday, September 1 for the Carnegie Mellon women’s cross country team at the Duquesne Duals held in Schenley Park. The Tartans took home fourth place out of the seven teams participating in the five kilometer race amidst 70 degree weather and sunny skies.

Senior Ashley Bakelmun (Wayne, N.J.) paced the Tartans with a 20th place finish in a time of 20:23. Freshman Kristen Staab (Trafford, Pa./Penn Trafford) was next in 27th place with a time of 20:44 and fellow freshman Rebecca Hachey (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) finished in 29th place thanks to a time of 20:52.

Sophomore Anna Lenhart (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) and senior Erin Gagnon (Lebanon, N.H.) finished fourth and fifth on the team, respectively, with Lenhart finishing in 21:08 (36th overall) and Gagnon in 21:22 (42nd). Junior Chrissy Krutz (Natrona Heights, Pa./Shadyside Academy) placed 44th overall in a time of 21:33.

Freshman Laura McKee (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) crossed the line in 21:51 (45th), junior Rachel Perry (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) finished in 23:27 (57th), and freshman Amal El-Ghazaley (Knoxville, Tenn./Farragut) finished in 24:26 (60th).

The Carnegie Mellon women’s cross country team will race again on September 15 when they travel to Indiana, Pa., for the IUP Invitational.
