Tartans Finish 10th at Annual Invite

Oct. 13 – (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Tartans women's cross country team hosted their annual Invitational on Saturday, October 13 in perfect weather conditions with the sun out and the temperature hovering around 50 degrees. Carnegie Mellon University finished 10th out of 20 teams with 237 points, while Indiana University of Pennsylvania took home the title with 53 points.

Junior Carolyn Clayton (Northampton, Mass.) led the Tartans with a 32nd place finish. Her time of 20:11.41 was ten seconds ahead of teammate Rebecca Hachey (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) who finished 39th. Sophomore Anna Lenhart used a time of 20:39.99 to finish 49th overall while freshman Kristen Staab (Trafford, Pa./Penn Trafford) ran the 5K race in 20:52.19, good for 54th place.

Finishing fifth on the team was senior captain Ashley Bakelmun (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills). Helping the Tartans displace runners were senior Erin Gagnon (Lebanon, N.H.) and junior Chrissy Krutz (Natrona Heights, Pa./Shady Side Academy). Gagnon finished two seconds ahead of Krutz with a time of 21:39.21.

The Tartans will take the week off from competition to get ready for the University Athletic Association meet on Saturday, October 27 at Brandeis University. The race starts at 10:00 a.m.
