Women’s Cross Country Races at Waynesburg Invitational

Sept. 16 - (WAYNESBURG, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon women’s cross country team finished in a tie for 10th out of 14 teams on Saturday, September 16 at the Waynesburg Invitational. They finished tied with Geneva College with 240 points. Dickinson College won the six kilometer race with a total of 44 points.

The course, which will be the site of the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional on Saturday, November 11, was very open and relatively flat with uneven terrain in some areas. The temperatures stayed in the 60’s throughout the morning with cloudy skies and minimal wind allowing for good running conditions.

Sophomore Carolyn Clayton (Northampton, Mass.) and freshman Danielle Sedlack (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) provided a good one-two punch for the Tartans. Clayton finished first on the team and 22nd overall in a time of 24:41.2 and Sedlack finished second on the team right behind Clayton. Senior Jerri Castillo (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) finished third on the team in her first six kilometer race with a time of 25:53.8 good for 53rd place overall.

Junior Carrie Kmetzo (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks) and sophomore Chrissy Krutz (Natrona Heights, Pa./Shady Side Academy) were fourth and fifth on the team respectively. Kmetzo (26:05.9) finished 60th overall and Krutz (26:08.5) placed 63rd.

Rounding out the top seven were senior Stef Penn (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley) who finished in 74th with a time of 26:26.4 and freshman Anna Lenhart (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) who placed 78th in 26:37.8.

The Carnegie Mellon women’s cross country team will travel to St. Vincent College next week in Latrobe, Pennsylvania for the St. Vincent Invitational. The race is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m.
