Women's Cross Country Takes Bronze at St. Vincent Invitational

Sept. 23 - (LATROBE, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon women's cross country team collected a solid third place finish out of 13 teams at the Saint Vincent Invitational on Saturday, September 23. The Tartans finished with 64 points, third behind St. Vincent College's 54 points and team champion Geneva College's 49 points.

The trio of freshman Hallie Espel (Golden Valley, Minn./Hopkins), sophomore Carolyn Clayton (Northampton, Mass.), and freshman Danielle Sedlack (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) led the way for the Tartans over the open and repetitive five kilometer course. Espel (20:29) finished sixth overall in a personal best time, Clayton (20:38) was ninth, and Sedlack (20:49) placed 12th.

Junior Carrie Kmetzo (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks) and senior Jerri Castillo (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) were the Tartans' fourth and fifth runners respectively on the day. Kmetzo (18th) crossed the line in 21:24 with Castillo (19th) right behind her in 21:28.

Sophomore Chrissy Krutz (Natrona Heights, Pa./Shady Side Academy) and freshman Anna Lenhart (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) rounded out the top seven for Carnegie Mellon as Krutz finished 30th overall in a time of 22:02 and Lenhart ran 22:16, good for 31st place.

In two weeks the Carnegie Mellon women's cross country team will travel to Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania for the Dickinson Invitational. The race is scheduled to start at noon.
