Frequently Asked Questions
How many hours a week are we required to practice?
As a cheerleader, you are required to practice anywhere from 4 to 12 hours per week. Our standard practice schedule is Monday, Wednesday, Friday 5:30 – 7:30 pm. All classes and extracurricular activities must be scheduled around the practice schedule. Additionally, all cheerleaders are expected to participate in a minimum of two hours of conditioning per week.
Do you have an attendance policy?
We have a strict attendance policy. You MUST be at all practices, games, and appearances. Academics and emergency situations are the ONLY exceptions. Team members are expected to make an effort to plan group meetings, recitations, and other activities around practices and games. Failure to attend team related events may result in disciplinary action or dismissal from the team.
How many cheerleaders will be chosen for the squad?
We choose up to 16 women and 2-4 men.
Does the squad compete nationally?
No, at this time we are not a competitive team. We are a cheerleading spirit squad that initiates crowd involvement. We do perform at basketball halftimes with a comparable, competition style routine and have the possibility of performing at exhibitions in the area.
What if I have never cheered before?
Previous cheerleading experience is NOT required. Any dance or gymnastics background is a plus. Tryouts are judged on motion technique and sharpness, stunting and dance ability, attitude and crowd appeal.
What if I can’t make the tryout date?
If you are interested in trying out but have a time conflict, please email Coach Alauna Peterson.
When are the next tryouts?
Please see the tryouts section for information regarding the 2008-2009 tryouts.
