UAA Preseason Rankings Announced
Nov. 7 – (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – The University Athletic Association (UAA) announced the women’s basketball preseason rankings with the Tartans of Carnegie Mellon University picked to finish seventh out of eight teams. Last year, the Tartans won two games in the highly competitive UAA, finishing seventh.
Washington University in St. Louis was picked to win the league with New York University on their heals in second after tying last year with identical 12-2 association marks. The two teams faced each other in the first semifinal of the NCAA Division III Final Four with Washington eventually falling in the 2007 championship game.
The University of Rochester and Brandeis University are selected to finish third and fourth, respectively. Both teams made appearances in the NCAA Tournament last year winning at least one game finishing the year with 20 or more wins.
The University of Chicago, Emory University, Carnegie Mellon and Case Western Reserve round out the bottom four.
The Tartans return four starters from last year’s team that continues to grow with experience. With five potential veteran starters the reliance on youth won’t be a factor early in the season like in years past.
The schedule opens with a home game against Otterbein on Friday, November 16 at 8:00 p.m. as part of the UAA/OAC Challenge.
