Women’s Basketball Drop 75-54 Decision at Emory

Jan. 27 – (ATLANTA, Ga.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women’s basketball team traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, Sunday, January 27 and dropped a 75-54 decision in University Athletic Association (UAA) play. The loss moves the Tartans record to 7-9 and 0-5 in UAA action, as the Eagles are now 8-8, 1-4.
With the score 9-9 with 13:22 to play in the first half Emory went on a 13-2 run over a four-and-a-half minute span to take a 22-11 lead. Carnegie Mellon scored five unanswered points on a lay-up by senior
Leah Feola (Pittsburgh, Pa./Canevin Catholic) and a three-point basket by junior
Stacie Aleski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) to cut the Eagles lead to 22-16. That is as close as the Tartans got in the first stanza with the score 37-21 at the break.
Emory’s sophomore LeShonda Lillard led all scorers at the half with ten points, as the Eagles shot 43% from the field to the Tartans 29% after the first twenty minutes. Junior
Jeanette Schilling (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) tallied a team-high five points for Carnegie Mellon in the first half.
Carnegie Mellon pulled within eleven at 41-30 just under four minutes into the second half, but 13 straight points by Emory gave the Eagles a 54-30 lead with 14:06 left in the contest. The Tartans did not give up cutting the Eagles lead to sixteen (64-48) following six straight points by Feola, but it was a little too late. Emory continued to maintain their lead, as they claimed a 75-54 victory.
Feola led the Tartans with 13 points and Schilling ended with 12 and a career-high nine rebounds for the Tartans. Junior
Corey Innes (Commerce, Mich./Lakeland) finished the game with nine points shooting 3-of-5 from behind the arc. Lillard end the game with a game-high 18 points to lead Emory.
The Tartans will be back in action Friday, February 1 as they entertain the Maroons of the University of Chicago at Skibo Gymnasium. Tip is slated for 6:00 p.m.
