Concordia-Austin Tops Carnegie Mellon in Mexico

Dec. 21 – (CANCUN, Mexico) – Carnegie Mellon University’s women’s basketball team traveled to Cancun, Mexico for the Caribbean Hoops Showdown and fell in their second game to Concordia-Austin out of Austin, Texas 65-56. The Tartans are now 5-3 on the season.
Junior guard Stacie Aleski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) led the Tartans once again with 16 points with a perfect showing from behind the arc (4-4). During the two-game tournament, Aleski shot 70% from the three-point line.
Junior Ashley Rothwell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Alvernia) dropped in 14 points including a 6-of-7 showing from the free throw line. The Tartans also saw sophomore Paige Williamson (Washington, Pa./Trinity) score in double figures for the second straight game with 11.
Despite falling behind in the first half by 17 points, the Tartans outscored the Tornados in the second period by a score of 40-32 after finding their shooting touch.
The Tartans return will break for the holiday and return to the court when they travel to Springfield, Ohio for the Wittenberg University Tournament. Carnegie Mellon opens the tournament against the host team at 2:45 p.m. on Friday, December 28.
