Tartans Defeated by Case Western 63-49

Feb. 24 – (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women’s basketball team fell at the hands of the visiting Case Western Reserve University Spartans by the score of 63-49 on Sunday in University Athletic Association (UAA) action. The Spartans took an early lead and led by around 10 points for the majority of the game as they improve their record to 12-12 overall and 5-8 in the UAA. The Tartans drop to 7-17 overall and 0-13 in the UAA.
Case Western freshman guard Caitlin Henry scored all of her 13 points in the first twenty minutes to pace the Spartans to a 39-30 advantage at the half. Carnegie Mellon junior point guard
Stacie Aleski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) hit a pair of three pointers en route to scoring ten first half points.
Aleski converted the traditional three-point play at the 13:39 mark of the second half to cut the Tartan deficit to six. Next, Case sophomore guard Ashleigh Tondo hit back-to-back three pointers and Case had a double-digit lead once again. Aleski added two late fast break lay-ups off assists from junior forward
Rachelle Roll (Ostrander, Ohio/Buckeye Valley) and the Tartans lost by 14.
Aleski finished with a game-high 20 points and four assists. Senior forward
Leah Feola (Pittsburgh, Pa./Canevin Catholic) contributed 11 points and 11 rebounds and Roll pulled down 10 rebounds in the loss. Tondo led the Spartans with 18 points and senior forward Ashley Horton scored 16 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. The Spartans held a 43-32 advantage in the rebounding department in the win.
The Tartans will conclude their season on Saturday as they host the University of Rochester. The game will be in Skibo Gymnasium and is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
