Tartans Falter on Road Versus Case Western

Jan. 25 – (CLEVELAND, Ohio) – A difficult shooting night for the Tartans resulted in a 76-57 loss to the Case Western Reserve University Spartans on Friday night at Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland, Ohio. The Spartans move to 9-6 and 2-2 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) while Carnegie Mellon University falls to 7-8 and 0-4 in the UAA. 

Carnegie Mellon had an early 7-6 lead but a 17-2 run by the Spartans over a five minute 31 second span pushed the home team to a 25-9 advantage halfway through the first period and the Tartans couldn't recover. The Spartans continued their hot shooting, hitting 51.5% of their attempts in the half and stretched the lead to 19 before exiting for the locker room.

Tartans junior forward Jeanette Schilling (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) led the team for the half with 11 points while junior forward Rachelle Roll (Ostrander, Ohio/Buckeye Valley) pulled down eight first half rebounds.

The second half was even as both teams put up 32 points. Roll continued her domination on the boards with 10 in the second half tying her career-high with 18 caroms for the game. Schilling finished with a career-high 15 points and sophomore guard Paige Williamson (Washington, Pa./Trinity) scored a season-high 12 points with 11 coming in the second period.

The Tartans continue their road trip with a visit to Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia on Sunday, January 27 at 2:00 p.m.
