Tartans Win Streak Ends at Hoops for Hope Tournament

Nov. 23 – (DELAWARE, Ohio) – In the opening game of Ohio Wesleyan's Bishop Classic "Hoops for Hope" Tournament for Carnegie Mellon University's women's basketball team, the Tartans fell to #17 Capital University 77-39. The Tartans are now 3-1 on the season with Capital moving to 3-0.

Carnegie Mellon had trouble getting shots to fall in the first half which allowed Capital to storm to a 38-14 halftime lead as the Crusaders hit 51.7% of their attempts including five treys to the Tartans 18.8% and two treys.

Junior forward Ashley Rothwell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Alvernia) had a well played second half in the post for the Cardinal and Gray shooting four of five while finishing with a team-high 11 points. Junior post Jeanette Schilling (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) led all players with eight rebounds, six of which she pulled down in the first half.

Capital was led by Kristen Richardson with 15 points and Caitlin Graessle with 10.

For the game, the Crusaders were as successful from the field as they were in the first half with a shooting percentage of 51.7 while the Tartans hit 26.7% from the field while only committing three more turnovers than their opponent. 

The Tartans will take on Frostburg State in the consolation game of the "Hoops for Hope" Tournament on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., as the Bobcats fell to Ohio Wesleyan 82-48 during the first game of the night.
