Women’s Basketball Drops 69-60 Decision at Brandeis

Feb. 17 – (WALTHAM, Mass.) – In the final road University Athletic Association (UAA) contest of the season for the Carnegie Mellon University women’s basketball team, the Tartans fell 69-60 to the Judges of Brandeis University on Sunday, February 17. The loss moves the Tartans record to 7-15, 0-11, as the Judges improve to 17-5, 8-3.
The Tartans trailed 20-8 at the 11:13 mark before rattling off five unanswered to pull with in seven (20-13). Junior guard
Stacie Aleski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) converted on an and-one and then dished the ball to junior forward
Rachelle Roll (Ostrander, Ohio/Buckeye Valley) for the Tartans other score. Brandeis answered the Tartans and turned nine Tartan turnovers in the first stanza into 14 points for the Judges as they took a 15 point lead, 43-28 into the break.
Brandeis started the second half on a 9-0 run extending their lead to 52-28 with 16:50 to play. The Judges held a 61-37 lead with 8:20 to play, but the Tartans would not go away as they went on a 9-0 run of their own making the score 61-46 with 7:03 on the clock. Aleski accounted for seven of the Tartans nine points on their run.
Carnegie Mellon continued to chip into the Brandeis lead, but sophomore Jessica Chapin’s trey with 2:20 to play sealed the 69-60 victory for the Judges.
The Tartans were led by Aleski’s 19 points, tying a season-high, as Roll cashed in with here second double-double of the season with 17 points, tying a season-high as well, and ten rebounds.
Junior Lauren Orlando led the Judges with 16 points, as Jaime Capra added 15 and Chapin had 11.
The Tartans will be back in action Friday, February 22 as they return home to entertain the Eagles of Emory University at Skibo Gymnasium. Tip is set for 6:00 p.m.
