Aleski Earns UAA Recognition
Jan. 3 - (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - Carnegie Mellon University sophomore Stacie Aleski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week. Aleski averaged 21 points and 4.5 assists on her way to being named to the all-tournament Team of the 27th annual Otterbein College/Smokey Ballenger Classic.
After tallying 13 points and three assists in a 99-63 opening round loss to host Otterbein, she recorded a career-high 29 points, dished out six assists, and made five steals in an 89-69 win over Lynchburg College in the consolation game. For the tournament, Aleski shot 64 percent (16-for-25) from the field including 54 percent (7-for-13) from behind the arc.
Carnegie Mellon will host a pair of UAA games this weekend against two ranked opponents. New York University, ranked 16th in the nation, visits Skibo Gymnasium on Friday, January 5 at 6:00 p.m. and #8 Brandeis University comes to town on Sunday, January 7 for a 2:00 p.m. tip.
