Women's Basketball Drops 62-51 Decision to York College; Aleski Named All-Tournament

Nov. 20 - (BALTIMORE, Md.) - The Carnegie Mellon women's basketball team competed in the consolation game at the 14th annual Blue Jay Invitational Sunday, November 20, and dropped a 62-51 decision to York College. The Tartans fall to 0-2, as York evens their record at 1-1.

The first half of action saw nine lead changes and eight ties; as York took a 33-29 advantage at the half. York went on a 7-0 run to start the second half to extend their lead to 11. Carnegie Mellon would not go away as they would pull within five twice throughout the second half, but would be unable to get any closer, as York went on to the 62-51 victory.

The Tartans were led by senior Dava Sommermeyer (Leonia, N.J./Academy for Advance Sci & Tech) with 12 points and six rebounds. Two Carnegie Mellon freshman recorded double digits in rebounds, Rachelle Roll (Ostrander, Ohio/Buckeye Valley) with 13 and Ashley Rothwell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Alvernia) had 11. Freshman Stacie Aleski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) chipped in with seven points for the Tartans and Roll added six.

York had three players in double figures. Kelli Ward led all scores with 15 points, while Heidi Miller chipped in with 14 and Chanel Perez had 10. York shot 38.5% from the floor to the Tartans 29.4%. Carnegie Mellon dominated on the glass, as they pulled in 57 rebounds, while York had 33.

Aleski was named to the All-Tournament team. She averaged 13 points and 3.5 rebounds in the two games.

Carnegie Mellon will be back in action Saturday, November 26 as they travel to Thiel College for a 6:00 p.m. tip.
