Women’s Basketball falls to #3 Washington (Mo.) University

Jan. 29 - (ST. LOUIS, Mo.) – The Carnegie Mellon women’s basketball team traveled to St. Louis, Mo. to play the 3rd ranked Bears of Washington University Sunday, January 29 and fell 74-36 in University Athletic Association (UAA) play. Washington moves to 16-2 overall and 6-1 in the UAA. The Tartans lose their fourth straight to drop to 5-13 overall and 0-7 in the UAA.

Washington University controlled the first half taking a 41-16 after the first twenty minutes of action. The Bears notched an 8-0 run to open a 14-4 lead. A few minutes later Washington followed their earlier run with a 25-0 run, holding the Tartans scoreless for 9:52. During the run, senior Danielle Beehler scored 10 of her 14 first-half points for the Bears.

The Bears started the second half where they left off extending their lead to thirty points on the way to a 76-34 victory.

The Tartans shot just 21% from the field converting 13-of-62 to Washington’s 44% (28-of-64). Senior Rebecca Shore (State College, Pa.) led the Tartans in scoring with 10 points, as freshman forward Rachelle Roll (Ostrander, Ohio/Buckeye Valley) hauled in a team-high seven rebounds.

Beehler led the Bears with 20 points, while senior Kelly Manning added 11 points and seven rebounds. Senior Katie Benson contributed 11 points.

The Carnegie Mellon women’s basketball team will host Washington University Friday, February 3 for a 6:00 p.m. tip at Skibo Gymnasium.
