Tartans Picked Eighth in UAA Preseason Women’s Basketball Poll

Oct. 31 (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) The Carnegie Mellon University Tartans have been picked eighth in the 2005 University Athletic Association (UAA) women's basketball preseason poll. The voting was conducted among the league's head coaches.

Washington University (MO) received six first-place votes and tallied 48 points. Washington is the eight-time defending UAA champion. Brandeis University received one first-place vote with a total point value of 42. New York University received the other first-place vote as they totaled 37 points in the third spot.

Head Coach Gerri Seidl, now in her 22nd year at the helm of Carnegie Mellon women's basketball, welcomes in 12 new faces to the 2005-2006 Tartan squad. The Tartans finished 4-21 last season and hope the new faces will help the team reach .500 for the first time since the '02-03 season.

Carnegie Mellon will open the 2005-2006 season Friday and Saturday, November 18-19, as they travel to Baltimore, Md. to play in the Blue Jay Invitational hosted by Johns Hopkins University.
