Tartans Fall At Hands of Eagles

Feb. 17 - (ATLANTA, Ga.) – The Carnegie Mellon Tartans visited the Emory University Eagles Friday, February 17 in University Athletic Association women's basketball action. The Eagles came up with the 84-43 win and move to 15-8 and 5-7 in the UAA, while the Tartans drop to 5-18 and 0-12.
Freshman forward Ashley Rothwell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Alvernia) came off the bench to score a career-high 12 points for the Tartans and grabbed six rebounds in 21 minutes of action. Senior guard Dava Sommermeyer (Leonia, N.J./Academy for Advance Sci & Tech) followed Rothwell with nine points and five rebounds.
For the Eagles, Kate Garrity poured in 14 points and Lora Turner scored 11, as 15 of 16 team members scored. Stephanie Holland grabbed a game-high seven boards to lead the Eagles.
After a 39-19 halftime lead, the Eagles used an advantage on the glass to help increase the distance in the second stanza. Emory outrebounded the Tartans 47-33 for the game and 23-9 for the half. Emory also was hot from the field making 55.6% of their attempts.
The Carnegie Mellon women's basketball team will continue their road trip with a 3:00 p.m. game at Case Western Reserve on Sunday, February 19.
