A Pair of Freshmen Honored by UAA Coaches

Feb. 28 - (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The All-University Athletic Association (UAA) women’s basketball teams were announced Tuesday, February 28 with Carnegie Mellon being represented by two freshmen players. Forward Rachelle Roll (Ostrander, Ohio/Buckeye Valley) and guard Gemma Easterling (Upper Marlboro, Md./Charles H. Flowers) both received All-UAA honorable mention status from the league coaches.

Roll, the Tartans leading scorer for nearly the entire season, finished with 186 total points for 7.4 a contest. She finished second behind injured freshman Stacey Aleski’s (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) 7.8 points a game. Roll led the team in rebounds (7.2), steals (44), and blocks (13). She also finished just behind Easterling with 40 assists.

Easterling earned a starting position four games into the year and averaged 7.4 points for the season. The main ball handler, Easterling finished with a team leading 43 assists and pestered her opponents on defense with 39 take-aways.
