Tartans Finish 3rd at UAA Indoor Championships
Mar. 8 – (CLEVELAND, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's indoor track and field team finished third at the University Athletic Association Indoor Track and Field Championships behind three first place finishes on Saturday. The Tartans finished with 93 points while the University of Chicago used a big second day to finish as champions with 120 points.
Senior Eric Tang (Alhambra, Calif./Dunn School) broke the school record in the 55 meter dash with an NCAA provisional time of 6.38 on his way to the title and was just .02 seconds off the automatic qualifying mark. Junior Brian Harvey (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) also provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships with a victory in the mile and a time of 4:15.82. The last Tartan to win a title on Saturday was senior Scott Fortune (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) who finished the 800 meter run in a time of 1:55.97.
Tang broke another school record with his fourth place finish in the triple jump as he leaped 13.71m. Junior Chris Fornataro (Ellwood City, Pa./Riverside) earned a point for the Tartans with his sixth place finish in the shot put (12.84) while sophomore Chris Bridgman (Casselberry, Fla./Lyman) also finished sixth in the pole vault as he vaulted to 4.20m.
Sophomore Chris Bogie (Darien, Conn.) was the last individual to finish in the top six as he crossed fifth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 52.35 and the 4x400 relay team of freshman Casey Piper (Butler, Pa.), freshman Nate Bussiere (Canton, Conn.), Bogie and Fortune finished third to earn All-UAA honors with a time of 3:28.35.
