Close Finishes Highlight Carnegie Mellon Men’s Track & Field Tri-Meet

Apr. 8 – (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men’s track and field team hosted the Carnegie Mellon Tri-Meet on Tuesday afternoon. The unscored meet consisted of competitors from California University of Pennsylvania, Franciscan University, the host Tartans, and a handful of athletes from Duquesne University.
A beautiful day was the setting for many season best performances by Carnegie Mellon athletes. Junior
Brian Harvey (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and senior
Scott Fortune (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) battled it out in the 800 meters with Harvey again edging Fortune by the slimmest of margins for the victory. Harvey ran a personal best 1:53.40 and Fortune put forth a personal best 1:53.45. Sophomore
James Hulley (Northampton, Mass.) threw a season best 14.70 meters to win the shot put, senior
Eric Tang (Alhambra, Calif./Dunn School) ran a season best 11 seconds flat to win the 100 meter dash, and junior
Ryan Anderson (Orchard Park, N.Y.) won the 1500 meters by 0.3 seconds as he crossed the line in 4:03.67.
Carnegie Mellon registered numerous other photo finishes as junior
Craig Hahn (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) was awarded the win in the 110 meter high hurdles despite finishing with the same time of 16.24 seconds as freshman
Chris Luther (Riverview, Fla.). Freshman
Casey Piper (Butler, Pa.) edged freshman
Essien Ohues (Alpharetta, Ga./Chaptahoochee) to win the 200 meters as Piper ran 22.69 seconds and Ohues 22.70 seconds. Senior
Kiley Williams (Washington, D.C./Randolph-Macon) won the 400 meter hurdles with a season best time of 56.18 seconds edging sophomore
Chris Bogie (Darien, Conn.) who finished second in 56.19 seconds. Freshman
Dan Melamed (Livingston, N.J.) registered a huge personal best of 4.11 meters to win the pole vault and sophomore
Chris Bridgman (Casselberry, Fla./Lyman) placed second with the same height.
Tang also won the triple jump (13.19 meters), junior
Chris Fornataro (Ellwood City, Pa./Riverside) won the discus (40.36 meters), Ohues won the high jump (1.90 meters), and junior
Mike Condon (Bend, Ore./Mountain View) won the 3000 meters in 9:14.08. Senior
Mike Reggie (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) led the team and was second overall in the hammer throw (48.32 meters) and Tang placed second overall in the long jump (6.35 meters). freshman
Don Mignogna (Apollo, Pa./Kiski Area) was second in the 100 meter dash with a personal best time of 11.31 seconds.
The Tartan 4x100 meter relay team won in 43.81 seconds and their 4x400 meter relay team finished second with a time of 3:29.41.
The Carnegie Mellon men’s track and field team will compete again this weekend with the top distance runners racing at Bucknell on Friday night and everyone traveling to compete at Robert Morris on Saturday, April 12.
