Men’s Track & Field Hosts Senior Meet

Apr. 26 – (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men’s track and field team hosted what was for most their final competition of the season on Saturday, April 26. A week after winning the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship the team hosted an unscored meet against competition from Duquesne, Franciscan, Allegheny, and Slippery Rock. The meet was a good way to honor the Carnegie Mellon graduating seniors in addition to providing the setting for good performances.
Sophomore
Chris Bridgman (Casselberry, Fla./Lyman) set the school record in the pole vault with a vault of 4.49 meters and he finished third overall. Senior
Eric Tang (Alhambra, Calif./Dunn School) nearly broke the 34 year old school record in the triple jump as he jumped 13.80 meters, finishing third overall. Junior
Brian Harvey (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) ran a season best time as he won the 1500 meters in 3:52.67.
The throwing trio of sophomore
James Hulley (Northampton, Mass.), junior
Chris Fornataro (Ellwood City, Pa./Riverside), and senior
Mike Reggie (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) took the top three places in the shot put with Hulley throwing 14.64 m, Fornataro 12.72 m, and Reggie throwing 11.87 m. Reggie finished third in the hammer (47.05 m) and Hulley was fourth in the discus (43.42 m). Freshman
Patrick O’Brien (Furnance, Pa./State College Area) jumped a personal best distance in the triple jump of 13.29 m as he finished fourth, freshman
Essien Ohues (Alpharetta, Ga./Chaptahoochee) won the high jump with a jump of 1.80 m and freshman
Mike Tomovich (New Paris, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) jumped a personal record (6.52 m) as he placed second in the long jump.
Junior
Craig Hahn (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) won the 400 meter hurdles in 57.61 seconds and placed third in the 110 meter high hurdles (16.57 seconds). Tang and Ohues finished first and second in the 100 meter dash with Tang crossing the line in 11.50 seconds and Ohues in 11.67. The Carnegie Mellon 4x100 meter relay team crossed the line first in 45.43 seconds.
Sophomore
Chris Rizzo (Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) won the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:21.72, sophomore
Chris Bogie (Darien, Conn.) placed second in the 200 meter dash (24.18 seconds), and sophomore
Dan Burrows (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) finished third in the 400 meters (53.20 seconds).
Some Carnegie Mellon athletes will continue competing with the next meet occurring on Friday, May 9 at Allegheny College.
