Stats

Feb. 23 – (KENT, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University men’s indoor track and field team competed at Kent State on Saturday, February 23. The Tartan runners had the unique experience of running on Kent State’s 292 meter track instead of the regular 200 meter tracks other colleges have. Coincidence or not, many of the Carnegie Mellon runners collected personal or season bests at the unscored meet.

Junior Brian Harvey (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) continued to impress as he reeled off a blistering 14:43.94 in the 5000 meters en route to placing second and setting a school record. Senior Eric Tang (Alhambra, Calif./Dunn School) performed well in multiple events, garnering a sixth place in the triple jump with a season best jump of 13.06 meters and a 13th place finish in the long jump (6.13 meters). Tang also was the top Tartan in the 60 meter dash as he placed 13th (7.14 seconds). Freshman Essien Ohues (Alpharetta, Ga./Chaptahoochee) nearly produced a personal best in the high jump en route to coming in seventh (1.93 m). Ohues also jumped to an 11th place finish in the triple jump (12.31 m) as freshman Patrick O’Brien (Furnance, Pa./State College Area) narrowly edged him in the event, with a tenth place finish of 12.40 meters.

Senior Mike Reggie (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) and sophomore James Hulley (Northampton, Mass.) led Carnegie Mellon in the throwing events. Reggie threw a season best in the weight throw (14.58 m) placing 18th and added a 31st place finish in the shot put thanks to a season best throw of 13.35 meters.
