Men’s Track and Field Enjoys Solid Debut

Jan. 26 – (GRANVILLE, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University men’s track and field team opened their 2008 indoor season with a strong showing at the Denison University Lid Lifter meet on Saturday, January 26. The Tartans took home individual titles in ten of the 15 events during the unscored meet held at the Mitchell Center.
Senior Eric Tang (Alhambra, Calif./Dunn School) won the long jump (6.23 meters), the triple jump (12.79 m), and the 55 meter dash (6.73 seconds). Junior Brian Harvey (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) won the mile run in 4:18.17, senior Mike Reggie (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) won the weight throw (13.68 m), and sophomore James Hulley (Northampton, Mass.) led the way in the shot put (14.32 m). Senior Scott Fortune (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) placed first in the 800 meter run (1:59.01) and freshman J.P. Allera (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) took top honors in the 3000 meter run (9:02.84). Freshman Essien Ohues (Alpharetta, Ga./Chaptahoochee) placed first in the high jump (1.86 m) and sophomore Chris Bridgman (Casselberry, Fla./Lyman) won the pole vault with a height of 4.25 meters.
Both Hulley and Ohues added second place finishes complementing their individual championships with Hulley placing second in the weight throw (13.20 m) and Ohues in the triple jump (12.75 m). Freshman Chris Luther (Riverview, Fla.) finished second in the 55 meter hurdles (8.28 seconds), sophomore Chris Bogie (Darien, Conn.) was second in the 400 meters (52.69), and junior Craig Hahn (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) placed second in the 200 meter dash (24.43). Junior Breck Fresen (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson) and senior Drew Miller (Westchester, Pa./Westchester East) followed Harvey with times of 4:24.82 and 4:25.27 respectively to finish second and third in the mile run.
The Carnegie Mellon men’s track and field team will be in action again next Saturday, February 2 when they travel to Morgantown, West Virginia and West Virginia University.
