Men’s Indoor Track and Field Impresses at Baldwin-Wallace

Feb. 15 – (BEREA, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University men’s indoor track and field team hit the road again on Friday, February 15 as they traveled and competed at the Baldwin-Wallace Mid February Meet. The unscored meet was attended by schools from Divisions I, II, and III, providing solid competition for the Tartans in their fourth contest of the indoor season.

Sophomore Dan Burrows (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) won the 1,000 meters in 2:38.53, marking the only individual title on the day for Carnegie Mellon. Senior Scott Fortune (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) took second in the 800 meters with a season best time of 1:57.03, senior Eric Tang (Alhambra, Calif./Dunn School) took silver in the long jump (6.26 m), and sophomore Chris Bridgman (Casselberry, Fla./Lyman) placed second in the pole vault (4.25 m).

Freshman Essien Ohues (Alpharetta, Ga./Chaptahoochee) collected a third place finish in the high jump (1.88 meters), junior Ryan Anderson (Orchard Park, N.Y.) came in third in the 1,000 meters (2:39.40), and freshman John Sourbeer (New Bloomfield, Pa./West Perry) finished third in the 500 meters (1:13.42).

Tang added fourth place finishes in the triple jump (12.91 m) and the 55 meter dash (6.66 seconds), both season bests. Freshman Patrick O’Brien (Furnance, Pa./State College Area) contributed a tie for fourth place in the high jump (1.83 m). Senior Mike Reggie (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) managed a fifth place finish in the weight throw with a season best throw of 14.01 m while sophomore James Hulley (Northampton, Mass.) placed seventh in the shot put (13.90 m).

Freshman Erik Kallenbach (Powell, Ohio/Olentagy) set a personal record in the mile, finishing fifth in 4:36.66. Junior Craig Hahn (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) made it to the finals of the 55 meter hurdles upon which he finished fifth (8.43 seconds). O’Brien was the top Tartan in the 300 meters (37.54), good for seventh overall and sophomore Chris Bogie (Darien, Conn.) was tops on the team in the 200 meters (23.90), good for ninth overall.

The Tartan 4x200 meter relay team finished fourth with a time of 1:36.89 and the 4x400 meter relay team took second with a time of 3:32.89.

The Carnegie Mellon men’s track and field team will be in action again next Saturday, February 23 when they travel to Kent, Ohio and Kent St. University.
