Carnegie Mellon Men’s Track and Field Athlete Hulley Honored By UAA

Coaching Staff Receives Recognition

Apr. 24 – (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University sophomore James Hulley (Northampton, Mass.) was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Most Outstanding Performer in the field events, as announced Thursday, April 24.  The honor comes after the Tartans claimed the UAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Sunday, April 20. This marks the Tartans second straight title.

The Carnegie Mellon men’s coaching staff was also honored as the Coaching Staff of the Year under the direction of Head Coach Dario Donatelli and assistant coaches Gary Aldrich, Betsy Warren, Rob Czlonka and Ken Hallinen.  This marks the second straight year and the third time in four year’s that the staff has received the honor.

Hulley claimed two UAA titles for the second straight season on his way to being named Most Outstanding Performer in the field events.  He recorded a season best distance of 14.77 meters in the shot put and then won the discus with a school record distance of 45.50 meters on the second day of competition. In 2007, Hulley was named UAA Men’s Rookie of the Year after winning both events.
