Harvey Earns Automatic Qualifying Time

May 15 – (SWARTHMORE, Pa.) – Four members of the Carnegie Mellon men’s track & field team competed Monday night, May 14 at the Swarthmore College Last Chance Meet. Sophomore
Brian Harvey (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) turned in a personal best time in the 1500 meter race receiving an automatic qualifying time for the 2007 NCAA Division III Championships.
Harvey crossed the finish line with a time of 3:50.15. His time was less than one second off the school record mark of 3:49.20 set by Michael Short in 1982. His time finds him a spot at the NCAA Division III Championships May 24-26 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on the campus of UW-Oshkosh.
Senior Davey Quinn (Glen Ellyn, Ill./St. Francis Prep) crossed the line five spots behind Harvey, also with a personal best time of 3:53.21. Quinn’s time improved is already provisionally qualifying mark by two seconds. He will now wait to see if he earns a trip to Oshkosh, Wisconsin when the field is announced Sunday, May 18.
Two other Tartans competed at the meet, junior Drew Miller (West Chester, Pa./Westchester East) and freshman Dario Donatelli Jr. (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic). Miller turned in a time of 4:00.06 in the 1500 meter race, while Donatelli placed eighth in the 5000 meter race with a time of 15:20.42.
