Men’s Track and Field Sweeps Competition at Carnegie Mellon Duals

Apr. 3 – (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon men’s track and field team hosted the Carnegie Mellon Duals on Tuesday, April 3. The three team meet consisted of Allegheny University, Geneva College, and the host Tartans. Carnegie Mellon swept the competition, defeating Geneva by the score of 138 to 59 and beating Allegheny by the score of 108 to 81.
Sophomore Brian Harvey (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) continued his fantastic season by running an NCAA Provisional qualifying time of 3:53.57 en route to winning the 1500 meter run. Senior Eric Tang (Los Angeles, Calif./Dunn) won the 100 meter dash in 11.43 seconds and senior Russel Verbofsky (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) placed first in the 200 meter dash (22.64 secs). Junior Kiley Williams (Washington, D.C./Randolph-Macon) contributed a first place finish in the 400 meters (51.21 secs) and sophomore Craig Hahn (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin), focused after an unfortunate fall in the 100 meter high hurdles, went on to win the 400 meter hurdles in 57.78 seconds.
Sophomore Colin Marks (Washington Crossing, Md./Council Rock North) won the high jump (1.75 m), freshman Chris Bridgman (Casselberry, Fla./Lyman) won the pole vault (3.95 m), junior Michael Reggie (Columbus Ohio/St. Charles Prep) took first in the hammer throw (48.12 m) and junior Chris Uhrinek (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) won the javelin (48.00 m).
Senior Davey Quinn (Glen Ellyn, Ill./St. Francis Prep) narrowly missed the qualifying time as he placed second in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:55.23 and junior Drew Miller (Westchester, Pa./Westchester East) finished fourth, crossing the line in 4:01.12, nearly three seconds faster than three days earlier at the Western Pennsylvania Championships.
The Tartans had a handful of other second place finishes, including sophomore Carlton Reeves (Attleboro, Mass./Moses Brown) in the 400 meters (52.06 seconds), junior Scott Fortune (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) in the 800 meters (1:59.99), Jeff Polack (Medina, Ohio) in the 400 meter hurdles (58.74 seconds), and sophomore Ryan Anderson (Orchard Park, N.Y.) in the 3000 meter steeplechase (10:05.30). Senior Edwin Uber (Pittsburgh, Pa./Allderdice) placed second in the pole vault (3.80 m), and freshman James Hulley (Northampton, Mass.) took second in both the shot put (13.87 m) and the discus (42.74 m).
Tang placed third in the long jump (6.37 m) and fourth in the triple jump (12.95 m). Freshman Dan Burrows (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) placed third in the 800 meters in 2:01.55 and junior Jason Jura (Forest Hill, Md./Dulaney) finished third in the steeplechase (10:17).
The Tartans’ 4x100 meter and 4x400 meter relay teams each placed first in their respective races, with times of 43.60 seconds and 3:25.30. Their 4x100 meter relay team consisted of sophomore Joel Palko (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe), Tang, freshman Chris Bogie (Darien, Conn.), and Verbofsky.
The men’s team will be in action again on Tuesday, April 10 when they host their second and final home meet of the season.
