Men’s Track and Field Performs Well at Bucknell

Brian Harvey’s (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) big day, the Carnegie Mellon men’s track and field team competed at the Bucknell Winter Games in Lewisburg, PA on Saturday, February 10.
Harvey, coming off a school record time of 4:18.05 in the mile last weekend, obliterated that time with a 4:13.80 on Saturday, good for second place in the race. He followed that up with a second place finish in the 800 meters (1:58.30).
The duo of senior Eric Tang (Los Angeles, Calif./Dunn) and sophomore Colin Marks (Washington Crossing, Md./Council Rock North) competed in multiple jumping events, with Tang placing fifth in the triple jump (13.05 m) and ninth in the long jump (6.68 m). Marks placed tenth in the high jump (season best of 1.81 m) and eighth in the triple jump (12.72 m).
The Tartans’ 4x400 meter relay team consisting of senior Russel Verbofsky (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel), sophomore Carlton Reeves (Attleboro, Mass./Moses Brown), junior Kiley Williams (Washington, D.C./Randolph-Macon), and freshman Chris Bogie (Darien, Conn.) finished fifth with a time of 3:32.52.
In the throwing events, freshman James Hulley (Northampton, Mass.) took fourth in the shot put with a personal record distance of 14.10 meters and junior Mike Reggie (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) placed sixth in the weight throw with a distance of 14.62 meters.
In other running events, seniors Nicholas Bannister (Sugar Land, Texas/Stephen F. Austin) and Geoff Misek (Goodrich, Mich.) each collected fifth place finishes. Bannister took fifth in the 55 meter hurdles (in a season-best 7.81) and Misek was fifth in the 1,000 meters (2:35.02). Verbofsky did both the 200 meters (12th) and 400 meters (sixth) in season-best times of 23.36 and 52.74, respectively. Sophomore Stephano Dubuc (Springdale, Md./Charles H. Flowers) finished right behind Verbofsky in the 400 meters, coming in seventh in a season-best time of 53.07. Following Harvey in the 800 were junior Drew Miller (Westchester, Pa./Westchester East) and freshman Dan Burrows (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton). Miller finished seventh in a season-best of 1:59.95 and Burrows was ninth in a season-best of 2:03.02.
The Carnegie Mellon men’s track and field team will compete again this Saturday, February 17 at Kent State University.
