Men’s Track and Field Compete Against Elite at Raleigh Relays;
Senior Nick End Earns NCAA Provisional Cut
Mar. 25 - (RALEIGH, NC) – The Carnegie Mellon men’s outdoor track and field team opened their outdoor season by traveling south to compete in the Raleigh Relays located on the campus of North Carolina State University. Over 75 collegiate teams participated in the annual two day event, held on Friday, March 24 and Saturday, March 25 at the Paul Derr Track & Field Stadium.
On Friday, senior Nick End (Shorewood, Wis.) raced in the men’s 10,000 meters, running the 25 laps in a personal best time of 30:38.13, good for 12th overall. End's time was an NCAA provisional cut. Senior Tom Matta (Erie, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) placed 20th overall in the shot put, with a throw of 13.77 meters, and junior Nick Bannister (Sugar Land, TX/Stephen F. Austin) came in 29th overall in the 110 meter hurdles (15.53). Sophomore Kiley Williams (Washington, D.C./Randolph-Macon) finished 22nd overall with a time of 56.25 in the 400 meter hurdles, and Carnegie Mellon’s 4x1500 relay team raced to a 14th place finish (16:32.49).
On Saturday, Carnegie Mellon’s 4x800 relay team finished 11th overall (7:55.80) and its 4x200 relay team ran a 1:31.40, good for 14th overall. Individually, Matta came in 17th overall in the hammer throw with a throw of 46.20 meters and junior Geoff Misek (Goodrich, Mich.) finished 23rd overall in the 1500 meter unseeded race with a time of 4:03.80.
The next race for the Carnegie Mellon men’s outdoor track and field team is the Western Pennsylvania Championships, which are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 1.
