Track and Field Athletes Compete at Dr. Keeler Invitational

May 12 - (NAPERVILLE, Ill.) – A handful of athletes from the Carnegie Mellon men’s and women’s track and field teams made the trip west to Naperville, Illinois for the Dr. Keeler Invitational hosted by North Central College. The two day event was held on May 11-12.
The Tartans put forth some impressive performances, as senior Tom Matta (Erie, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) finished fourth in the hammer throw with a distance of 49.71 meters. Senior Nick End (Shorewood, Wis.) raced in the 5000 meters and came in 13th overall with a school record time of 14:45.10 and junior Davey Quinn (Glen Ellyn, Ill./St. Francis Prep) also set a personal best with a time of 1:54.18 in the 800 meters, good for 15th on Friday.
Junior Russel Verbofsky (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) raced in both the 200 meters and 400 meters, compiling times of 22.85 and 51.16 respectively. He finished tenth in the 200, and 11th in the 400. Fellow junior Nick Bannister (Sugar Land, TX/Stephen F. Austin) competed in the 110 meter high hurdles and wound up ninth with a time of 15.20. Senior Jocelyn Sikora (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips), the lone Tartan women’s track and field athlete to compete, raced in the 1500 meters and crossed the line in 18th place with a time of 4:51.93.
