Men's Track Competes at Denison University Big Red Invitational

Feb. 4 - (GRANVILLE, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon men's indoor track and field team competed at the Denison University Big Red Invitational Saturday, February 4 in an unscored meet. The Tartans turned in seven first places and had 16 top three finishes on the day.
Carnegie Mellon's freshman Keith Torluemke (Redondo Beach, Calif./Academy of Math & Science), junior Davey Quinn (Glen Ellyn, Ill./St. Francis Prep) and junior Geoff Misek (Goodrich, Mich.) swept the 800 meter run finishing with times of 1:57.34, 1:57.81 and 1:59.92. This marks the second straight week that Torluemke and Quinn crossed one-two.
The 1,500 meter race was headed by Carnegie Mellon freshman Brian Harvey (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) crossing the finish line in 4:27.82 followed by sophomore teammate Drew Miller (Westchester, Pa./Westchester East). Miller had a time of 4:28.98. The Tartans dominance in the distance events continued when senior Nick End (Shorewood, Wis.) paced the field in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 8:45.98. Junior Mike Bridenbaugh (Defiance, Ohio) (8:56.16) placed third behind End.
Junior Russel Verbofsky (Pittsburgh, PA /Fox Chapel) topped his third place finish in the 200 meter dash from a week ago with a first place finish Saturday in a time of 23.43. Verbofsky also had a third place showing in the 55 meter dash (6.86). Junior Nick Bannister (Sugar Land, TX/Stephen F. Austin) finished first in the 55 meter hurdles (7.87) and junior Mark Davis (Loveland, Ohio) had a time of 52.95 in the 400 meter dash, good enough for third place.
Carnegie Mellon junior Eric Tang (Los Angeles, Calif./Dunn) led the way in the field events turning in two first place finishes in the long (21'07.25) and triple (42'08) jumps. Freshman Colin Marks (Washington Crossing, Md./Council Rock North) finished behind Tang in the triple jump with a distance of 42'06.75. Pole vaulter Edwin Uber (Pittsburgh, Pa./Allderdice) had jump of 11'06 for a second place mark.
