Dario Donatelli enters his 11th season as the head men's track and field coach. A 1981 graduate of Carnegie Mellon, Donatelli was named the 2007 University Athletic Association Men's Track & Field Coaching Staff of the Year after winning the UAA Outdoor Championship.
The 2006-2007 men's track and field team had a breakthrough year when they finished third at the UAA Indoor Championships and brought home the title in the Outdoor Championships, marking their first title since 1993 and first ever outright championship. Brian Harvey and Davey Quinn both earned All-America distinction, Harvey in the mile run (8th) at the indoor championships and Quinn (2nd) in the 1,500 meter race at the outdoor championships.
As a 20-year coaching veteran, he has coached seven All-Americans in cross country and 19 All-Americans in track.
Carnegie Mellon has won six conference titles under Donatelli (four in cross country, two in track and field) and has been named a conference Coach of the Year ten times.
Donatelli's coaching success followed an outstanding collegiate athletic career. As a senior cross country runner at Carnegie Mellon, under recent retiree Gary Meckley, Donatelli earned All-America honors and led the Tartans to the NCAA Mideast Regional title. Donatelli was a three-time All-Mid East runner, four-time national qualifier and the Presidents' Athletic Conference Most Valuable Performer in 1980.
