Men's Tennis Opens UAA Championships with an 8-1 Win

Apr. 25 – (ATLANTA, Ga.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team started the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship with an 8-1 win over the number six seed Brandeis University. The Tartans, who are ranked 16th in the nation, entered the championships as the third seed and are now 17-6 on the year.
The Tartans opened up the match taking two of three in doubles play. The duo of sophomore Jon Spero (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shadyside Academy) and freshman Alex Nemerov (Lake Forest, Ill.) shutout David Silver and Mayur Kasetty 8-0. The tandems win kept the Cardinal and Gray's energy going, as the Tartans swept singles play.
The Tartans will play Emory University on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in a semifinal match with the winner moving on to play the winner of Washington University in St. Louis and the University of Chicago at 8 a.m. Sunday.
